I had a client a while back who had survived a major trauma and had been feeling guilty because she ran for her life, rather than staying to help others. Both the urge to save your own life and to feel guilty about having done so are natural reactions, but she believed that she was not going to feel better until she “put that right.”
With a bit of thought, we came up with a plan. My client decided to give blood for her first time. The folks at the blood donation center were AMAZING. She explained the idea we had come up with, and they ran with it, explaining that stocks were low and this was the perfect time to “save a life.” All that I needed to do was reinforce that feeling. She had done all the work already.
I love what I do these days.
